Ballinderry River Enhancement Association



Ballinderry Fish Hatchery Ltd is dedicated to the conservation of the Ballinderry River, its freshwater species and habitats, its fisheries and the education and empowerment of the catchment community in the protection of the river.

Ballinderry Fish Hatchery is a not-for-profit community business owned by its parent charity the Ballinderry River Enhancement Association.

Working in partnership with the local community, Northern Ireland’s government departments and non-government organisations, Ballinderry Fish Hatchery Ltd carries out breeding programmes for locally and globally threatened freshwater species, river habitat enhancement and restoration projects, water quality improvement initiatives and education and awareness programmes in the Ballinderry and further afield.

Ballinderry Fish Hatchery specialise in the breeding of river brown trout, dollaghan trout, and Atlantic salmon. The hatchery is also a centre of breeding excellence for the globally endangered Freshwater Pearl Mussel and has more recently established a breeding programme for the globally threatened White-clawed Crayfish.

Ballinderry Fish Hatchery’s specialist staff provides a consultancy service, advising and helping clients plan and undertake river projects. The hatchery also undertakes breeding programmes and carries out habitat restoration projects on other rivers in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, on behalf of resident angling clubs, conservation groups and local and central Government organisations.
